Suez, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt
Friday, July 4, 2008

We left our cushy resort hotel today, happy, well-rested and well-fed.

We really appreciated the chance to have a couple nights of good, uninterrupted sleep. The past few weeks have really worn us down, physically and mentally, and it seems every moment we are not on the road we just collapse into a comatose state of existence.

Traveling north to Suez city we didn't need to go in convoy. The road followed the Red Sea coast all the way; a fantastic mountain and sea road which reminded us of Chapman's Peak Drive in Cape Town.

Opened in 1869 as the gateway between Europe and Asia, we stayed in a room in the Red Sea Hotel which faced the famous Suez Canal.

Before dinner, we watched several huge vessels passing through the canal. Quite amazing.
