Some notes from today:

A long day's drive to Kampala.

Passed some nice hilly scenery. Drivers are stubborn and will try to edge you off the road. How much do you really believe "GOD WILL PROTECT?"

The men are much taller here, broader.

Kids extend their hands and scream "GIVE ME MONEY". It's incessant, and (I find) very rude. We wonder, is it because everyone shares everything here, where the African philosophy is that if you have something, you must share it with your family and friends? That if you're rich, you should give? And because we are perceived as rich (and we are, comparatively) so they ask for money because it is what they would do?

Lunched in Lyandonde, all for 9000 Ugandan shillings! Matoke (boiled plantains) and goat stew and rice, and a flat Coke. Great service though.

At 2:45 pm we crossed the equator!! We are in the Northern Hemisphere, homeward bound.

The steering is off, went to see Chris at his 4x4 Service Garage when we arrived in Kampala. Bushes were shot, shredded and useless. Will come back tomorrow at 8am for them to be replaced.

Arrived at Phil and Clare's home and met their two darling girls, Eloise and Ceria. Matt used to play badminton with them when he lived here. They've been living in Uganda for 12 years now. The girls have only ever known life in Uganda (except for visits back to the UK) and are incredibly socialable and confident, a great childhood.

They also run HOPE CLINIC LUKULI, a local clinic with free HIV testing, immunization, and a host of other services. One of the main reasons for raising funds for our journey was to contribute to the running costs of HOPE CLINIC, thank you all to those who have!

Tonight was all about hot showers, a delicious Mexican dinner and a nice warm bed.

Start: Bunyonyi Overland Camp, Bunyonyi, UG. 07:50
End: Phil and Claire's home, Kampala, UG. 16:30
Distance Traveled: 440 km
Road Conditions: highway full of holes and speed bumps, nothing extraordinary; road to Phil and Clare's home is literally a single dirt track, and very steep.
Temperature: Sweaty and humid today.

Well, the ugandan equator point gets you a little dumb. When people go there some start crying, sleeping, or falling down and eat the red ground. From lagua, on Nov 17, 2011 at 08:46PM
