Mwanza, Tanzania

Today we are spending the day in Mwanza, me catching up on blog entries and Matt going into town to fix Foxy. We had to turn off both car batteries so that the headlights would turn off. Luckily there is a Landrover garage listed in one of our guidebooks so we're hoping the problem will be fixed today.

Like our new car sticker says, "No Hurry in Africa!" Indeed.

The "mzungu" (literally means 'white man') calling is becoming more incessant as we enter bigger towns. But it's usually children who do it; adults just lock eyes with you and stare. I was never one for staring so I normally smile or wave, which usually invokes a grin or a thumbs-up sign.

The staff here at Peace of Mind Lodge have been incredible hosts here. They said the internet connection was installed yesterday and when we tried to connect our laptop this morning and found out it didn't work, one of them called their server company immediately to have someone come out and fix the connection. What service!

I feel so pampered here. Typing away on the laptop under the garden hut, surrounded by gorgeous green aloe plants, newly-washed clothes hanging on the line, sun high and bright with steady breeze coming from Lake Victoria, tummy full of chicken sandwich, salad and chai.

Well, the woman from the internet company came to sort out the connection. It turns out the Lodge was never connected because they hadn't paid yet. Oops. We'll have to go into an internet café tomorrow instead.

And it looks like Foxy is getting a big tune-up and won't be ready until tomorrow afternoon. The Landrover garage owner is also trying to locate a used air-conditioner for Foxy. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

So we'll probably spend a couple more nights here in Mwanza which is fine by us. We are exceptionally tired and could do with a bit of rest and relaxation. Don't think it's the sleeping sickness symptom kicking in; it's more likely to do with us being on the road for the past 4 weeks. Yes, exactly 4 weeks tomorrow! Wow.
